How are you feeling after book 2? Um, after book 2, okay, my instinct is still, I think, is correct, is that, um, Feyre is a butch badass bisexual woman. Okay. She get— and she's like being played. She's being played by like these 2 guys. One's just a fucking asshole, the other one's kind of manipulative. Wow. And then there's a whole lot of fucking edging going on in this book. Hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up. Who are the 2 guys you're referring to?

2:46 I'm sure one is Tamlin. Tamlin. Fuck Tamlin. Just automatically fuck Tamlin. Now I get— now I understand why we are all fuck Tamlin. And then Rhysand. Really? I— And who's manipulative? Rhysand is a little manipulative. And you read the whole book? So I got to the part where, you know, they're in there and they're like getting all like being the mate and everything. And then I finally got it, but I also realized like way early on that, um, Feyre and Rhysand were meant to be together. Okay, so, so, okay. And I asked that, and I think that's what caught me off guard, is how is that manipulative when that was his mate? But we'll— let's, let's put like a little, a little bookmark there, and then we'll, we'll dive into the beginning of this book.

3:41 And so like in the beginning Right? When she's getting ready to marry fuckwad, because I can't even say his name. So, and then, uh, he's being like all controlling and she's feeling it, and then Rhysand swoops in and it's like, oh, time to go. And then it wasn't until later in the book when he started— when she started like feeling her powers and getting training and things that they were using her. Oh yeah, like a, like a chess piece. Yeah, she was a chess piece. So, um, okay, that's where I'm getting— I feel like he was kind of— Rhysand was like really honest about it. He's like, I need you to do the things, right? So you're basically signing on to whatever. And it's not until she puts her foot down and says, no, fucker, you're gonna like tell me all the things before it happens and not just be like Oops. That, that's the part that was hard for me is because I've been in relationships like that where you get into a relationship but you're only getting like half-truths. Yeah. When I'm not getting the full truth, it kind of pisses me off. Yeah.

Like, either like say say what you need to say, but don't fucking play her like a violin because that's exactly what what he was doing is playing her like a violin, and it just it made me mad. After killing a wolf in the woods, she discovers that the wolf was actually a fairy.

She is taken to the Spring Court by Tampon/Tamlin— fuck that guy— High Lord of the Spring Court, where she slowly discovers that the beautiful fairy world she once feared is nothing like she imagined. Turns out it's pretty. It's beautiful. Feyre and fucking Tamlin fall in love. Fuck that guy. But there's a problem. A mysterious curse is slowly destroying Prythian. To break the curse, Feyre eventually goes under the mountain. Dun, dun, dun. Dun, dun, dun, dun. Where she is forced to complete 3 deadly trials set by Amaretto. Fuck that bitch. Fuck her.

7:46 Along the way, she makes a bargain with Rhysand. To dangerously charming and morally questionable High Lord of the Night Court, AKA— I'm gonna record this and sleep to this at night. You know that, right? Rhysand helps her survive, but at what cost? Feyre completes the trials, solves Amaretto's riddle, and dies. Fuck. Yeah. Spoiler alert. She doesn't stay dead though. 7 High Lords resurrect Feyre and she returns made, no longer entirely human, but something new, something powerful. Tamlin gets his happily ever after girl back, question mark. Except Feyre isn't the same girl anymore.

8:29 She has nightmares, she carries the trauma of Under the Mountain, and she has a bargain tying her to Rhysand. And somewhere beneath the gold masks, Spring Court romance and happy ending. The story is just getting started. That brings us to here. How was that? It does. I like that. I love the bedside recap. Okay. Going back to something you mentioned, G, I think you said you like were rage reading it. Yes. In doing this review, I have to say, I think it's healthy to say that there's a bit of a trigger warning with this book. The first half of the book, in my opinion, is a narcissistic man Who is basically abusive. Yes.

9:12 And I struggled not completely losing my fucking mind in the first half of this book. Yeah. I was pissed. Yeah. So listeners— I was still trying to root for, he's the beast, right? This is going to turn into a beauty in the— because I had never read any of her books before at this point. So, this is my second book. So, I'm like, this is gonna be great, 'cause they're gonna work through this really terrible, horrible time. And then he just keeps getting more and more and more and more and more— I think he's trying to be protective, but he's just being willfully ignorant of anything that has to do with— Feyre and her whole existence. Yeah.

10:06 And just what he needs to do in order to get through this time that they're blah blah blah. Especially now that she's powerful, right? She's not this weak mortal. Now she's immortal and she's a fucking badass. And you see it time and time again as you read the second book. And I was like, go Feyre, go Feyre! Like, But I also knew, like, she felt like she had to do it because she wanted to earn her keep. She didn't want to disappoint anybody. Yeah, she wanted to earn it with Rhysand. Yeah, and his, and his crew, because they treated her with respect and kindness and love. I mean, yeah. That's all we ever want is kindness and love, right?

10:51 Kindness. Because I'm going to tell you, Tampon Is not kind, and not— at least not through the, the, you know, through the parts of the book that I read. And the fact that, you know, he like lost his shit in the house and like made her cower, and then like— and then, you know, locking her in the house and not allowing her to go with him and being super secretive. Fuck you, asshole. Yeah, listen, like, let's have some autonomy here. Like, let me show you what a badass I am and how I can help you. But no, he was like a pussy and he was like, no, I'm gonna lock your ass in the house. Yeah, and then says it's for her protection. That gaslight, you know?

11:40 Yeah, like, are you fucking me? Like, get the fuck out of here. For my own protection? Okay, guys, hold on. I mirror all of these feelings, thoughts, statements. I 100% agree. But for the listeners, let's start where this book picks up. Okay. It is 3 months after they leave Amarantha, right under the mountain. They've— they're now moving out of the mountain and they're back in the Spring Court. And 3 months of time has passed. That's where the story begins. In the 3 months, a couple of things have happened. Feyre and Tamlin get engaged. They are engaged to be married.

12:29 For those listening, Nacho's face was delightful. They get engaged after 2 months and they are 2 weeks away from their wedding day. So just like in terms of timeframe, that's where we are, right? Here's some things though, because I was starting to think about this. In book 1, we meet Feyre for the first time and we get to know who she is through her eyes, right? She's a hunter, a provider, caretaker. Like that's her role. In this book, we are arguably meeting Feyre again for the first time because she's not human anymore, right? Like. Feyre is this fae now. And so who is she? She is going through some shit.

13:16 So much shit. She's got really bad PTSD. Really bad. Real bad PTSD. I also think she is like grieving her human existence being gone. So like, those are really heavy emotions to handle on a normal day. Let alone, I think she's still isolated to some degree in the Spring Court, even though she knows Tamlin and Lucien and the people that live there. It's like that whole thing about being lonely in a whole room full of people. It's like a real thing. So she doesn't know who she is, and nobody else there seems to fucking give a fuck to learn who is she, or like, what is she going through? Like, Lucien Occasionally kind of like he can tell something ain't all the way right, but he's still eating Tamlin's ass. Like he is like, okay, but do we think that there's a thing with Tamlin and— there's gotta be, dude. There's gotta be. I feel like that's a thing. There's gotta be. I feel like that there's more than just a bro remain— uh, friendship relationship there. Yeah, I feel like there's actually some like There's some sexual tension. Romance. Yeah, some romantic situation there. They are in love. Well, Lucian is in love. Yeah, Lucian's in love with Tamlin. I still don't think he can love anybody.

14:35 I think Tamlin loves him too, but I think Tamlin's just a— anyways, this is— Tamlin's never coming out of the closet. This is the fanfic we need and we want brought forth, right? Like, I want to read the eating of the ass. But nonetheless, Tamlin— Soul sister. Family. Who cares? I want to know all about it. But it did, it bothered me in the first half of this book, let's call it, that nobody sought to, to like check in on her. Like, okay, she immediately is, you know, obvious, obvious signs of PTSD— waking up from nightmares, throwing up, hiding it in the back— not hiding it, I mean, I guess you got to throw up in the bathroom, but like She's trying to keep it quiet because Tamlin doesn't wake up. He doesn't check on her. He doesn't— maybe he doesn't hear her. Maybe he does.

15:28 Either way, he's not acknowledging what's happening to her. Right. And not even saying anything about her weight because she lost a ton of weight. She can't keep shit down. No. Yeah. And Tamlin, I guess, you know, they both went through the same, well, similar experience under the mountain. And there's parts in the book where they reference Tamlin also having nightmares. But the difference there is Feyre wakes up to try to comfort him, to check on him, like, is everything okay? And he's like, I don't want to acknowledge it. Let's never talk about it. And so they don't. They never talk about it. They never check in on each other. They— I think he like mirrors it as like, if we talk about her, she wins. So let's just never talk about Amarantha. Mm-hmm.

16:09 So it just goes unsaid. Like nobody is checking in on each other. They're living in a very toxic relationship, all they seem to do is fuck, and like, that's okay. Like, orgasms are great, but it's not even a Band-Aid. No, it's not gonna get you through PTSD. So that is super frustrating, um, as like a pro, like, I don't know, human rights person. Like, what the fuck? Like, she's not even getting the help she needs. Yeah, and like she wasn't even getting the help from the other Faes in Tamlin's house, right? Like they were all leaving her alone. I'm like, this girl just went through some really traumatic shit. Like, man up. If this is who you, who you want in your life, like help her.

17:00 Don't be a dick. Yeah, stop pushing her off onto Ianthe. Yeah, and she's completely changed, right? Like she Yes, physically has changed. She's figuring out what's going on with her, but her interests are no longer her interests anymore. She's triggered by colors, so she stops painting. She loses herself. She can't hunt or provide because he doesn't let her. Mm-hmm. And so she's alone. She's alone in this new existence with no one there to sort of help and guide her. And I think in the beginning of the book, at least I like to believe, that she starts to resent Tamlin pretty early on. Agreed. And so I took this clip of a line, because I think it depends on how you read it, like the meaning of it might change. And so she says, for him, I had done this. For him, I'd gladly wrecked myself and my immortal soul. And now I had eternity to live with it. Which, when I read it, I feel like she's like, for this motherfucker? For this motherfucker? Right. Yeah. Like, now I gotta live with this shit forever. This one decision I made for this piece of shit guy, right? But like, I'm sure that's not, you know, in her heart of hearts what she was feeling. But me hating Tamlin, that's how I'm reading that shit. No, but I feel like that's— I like that because she spends all this time under the mountain doing these things, and compromising herself

18:33 to such a point that she's— I don't know, she just spends so much time like, well, he's not even acknowledging me, he's not even looking at me, but there's got to be a reason. If he does it, maybe, maybe Amaretto's gonna like, you know, do something terrible to him or whatever, and he's just trying to self-preserve or whatever. Fuck you, dude. Fuck that guy. Fuck him. Like, he, he really pissed me off because he reminded me of like men I've had in my life that are just fucking narcissistic gaslighting assholes and how I wanted to see each and every single one of them dead.

19:15 Damn. Well, because of the way they make you feel. Like, you know what? I don't need that shit in my life. Nobody does. The world shits on me enough. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Besides Feyre, there's also— I think it's worth mentioning that the fae land, so like the Spring Court and all other courts seem to be trying to recover from Amarantha's reign. So there's— it's like the whole world is trying to kind of get back to what it knows and find some— Sort of way to rebuild itself. Also, Feyre. Yeah. Um, I guess we have to talk about Tamlin. Yeah, we gotta talk about Tamlin.

20:02 Yeah, because he keeps popping up. Yeah, tampon. So listen, tampons are so helpful, and he was not helpful of a uterus uterus havers like Life. I don't think that we should call somebody who's so terrible something so valued. Okay, can we just call him fucker then? Let's just call him fucker. Whatever you want. I just needed to say that. That's all. I'm just gonna say Tamlin like that. Yeah, Tamlin. Um, actually, let's— let me put it off longer. Hold on. There's something else about Feyre. Feyre is known by people of the land, like they've given her this nickname called Cursebreaker. So like, I feel like that adds like this weight of like she has to live up to this thing, but she doesn't know who she is. Some ways that she's struggling to figure herself out and like signs that she is more than she was before. Mm-hmm. Is she now has this immortal strength. that she refers to as a curse in the very beginning half of the book. She thinks of it as— all of these as a curse. That she is breaking and bending silverware just by holding them. So she doesn't know her own strength anymore. She's shattering glass doors by closing them. She's super fucking clumsy because now she's got like these beautiful, graceful, long legs and she's tripping over shit. So like all of that to say, like she is unfamiliar with her own body. And she doesn't know how to be

21:36 anymore. She is discovering who this new version of her is. And just, I think that adds to the mental aspect of feeling alone and nobody's there to even help you discover what it's like to be a fae. Yeah, because they're basically ignoring her. Yeah, they're turning the other way. She still has the tattoo Rhysand gave her. And she now is starting to notice, like, oh, it— the eye is definitely watching me and, like, adjusting to light. Like, she's paying more attention to this tattoo. Um, but all in all, she's restless, but she wants to help. She wants to be of service to Tamlin. Like, let me help you fight. I have these new— like, I'm not breakable anymore. Like, let me help. And Tamlin says— Let me learn. Let me help. Let me do something.

22:29 Yep. And so now into Tamlin. This motherfucker— It's Tamlin. Tamlin. Turns out he's still hunting beasts from Amarantha. So even though Amarantha is dead, there's still people that reported to her or worked under her that are still quote unquote coming onto his land. So he'll disappear from time to time to hunt these beasts or do these things and never lets Feyre come even though she asks repeatedly to let her go. One fuck you Tamlin line that I have— Do it. Is I hated, like, the first time she asks to go with him, he says, I don't have sentries to spare to escort you.

He has literally no idea that she can't paint because the colors trigger her. So he's like, don't come with me, go paint instead. Like, completely fucking out of touch with like anything involving Feyre. Yeah, yeah. Um, All of that to say, I have a theory on Tamlin. Ooh, okay. I like, I like theories. And maybe this is me trying to be less, I guess, critical of him, is I think that part of what drives Tamlin is his desire or his need to prove that he is so much unlike his dad. So his father was known to be cruel.

24:19 He would basically take humans as slaves, beat the shit out of them, kill them. He was just a very cruel king. And so I think Tamlin has this underlying, like, I need to not be like my father. I need to show the world that I'm not like my father. And all of that, I think, drives— Tamlin's view of Feyre. And so my theory is Tamlin does not see Feyre as his High Lady or his queen because he sees her as his trophy. She proves that he is greater than his father. He doesn't want anybody to take his trophy away. That's my theory. That's a good one.

Yeah, he's an asshole, but that kind of helps like justify maybe one of the reasons why he's such an asshole. Well, and I think that, you know, going back to like the mental healthy part of this too, is like there's some childhood trauma there that he's trying to fucking work through. And yeah, it's not coming through in the best light, okay? Like there's better ways. This whole book He's like a— just a giant wiener. Like just a huge whiny wiener of helplessness and discontent. And I'm here for it because fuck that guy. I like that you said because. Because. Because.

Um, I will say, side note, G taught me to do voice memos, and so I, I recorded that voice memo as I was running on the treadmill. Like, he's very wrong. Like, I was like, yeah, that explains why he keeps her in the house. doesn't want her to leave. She cannot be broken. She cannot be taken. He, that is his property, his trophy. You need to be in a room on a shelf. She sees it as protection. He's protecting her and he, and he's because she is his trophy. Yeah.

Yeah, enamored with Tamlin. Like, because he's so enamored with Tamlin and because he wants to give of himself so much to Tamlin for a multitude of reasons, It may— that's where, like, the relationship aspect, the, the romantic relationship aspect of their beings comes for me.

28:22 Like, he sees Feyre struggling, and he wants to help Feyre, and he wants to, like, do the things. Even in that moment before she loses her shit, uh, he's like, just please, I'll talk to him. Like, he's always trying to talk Tamlin into something, and Tamlin's just like— Oblivious. Yes. He's so like— he's— Tamlin is— I'm gonna say this and I'll probably regret it, but he's so naive to the point that he's an asshole. Yes, like 100%. Yeah, Tamlin is all in Tamlin's head. Tamlin thinks he is the greatest thing next to fucking sliced bread.

29:11 Uh, that he— no one is better than him and that what is his is his and he doesn't want to share. And I think that thing that like pissed me off is like Lucien's trying to help train Feyre, right? She has these amazing powers and, um, Tamlin— Tamlin— Tamlin— Tamlin. Tamlin is like No, you are gonna sit and curtsy and you're gonna fold your legs and you're gonna bake me fucking cookies and you are not gonna come out and you're not gonna learn how to— you're not gonna learn how to fight. We're gonna let those powers just stew in you. And that, that pissed me off. It's, it's like putting women down. Like, we are smart, intelligent creatures.

Lucien at one point gives Feyre knives. Like, he, he— I think he sees the need for her to train and like he doesn't see anything wrong with it. But what makes Tamlin even more fucking toxic in this book is he's got this cheerleader We meet a new character. Her name is Ianthe. Fuck this bitch. Bitch. Fucking bitch. Bitch. See, I hate her more than I hate Tamlin. Yeah, she's a real— She's a real fucker. Slimy fucking— Piece of shit. She's a predator, bro.

30:48 Ianthe is a high priestess, which— Let me not. Do it. This bitch, Ianthe. She's this high priestess. She's supposed to be a spiritual guide and like, whatever. She's also somehow like the wedding planner because Feyre decides— I think she never— I think all along, all along she realized this was a bad idea and it made her less excited to pick colors for the wedding, seating charts, a wedding dress, Yada, yada, yada. So Ianthe swoops right in and is like, don't worry, I'm going to do that all for you. I'll kind of involve you here and there. Feyre is more than happy to let Ianthe take that responsibility on. But Ianthe is also in Tamlin's ear encouraging it all. Yeah, she doesn't need to train.

31:40 She doesn't need to fight because the appearance of that would say we're in trouble. People see that your soon-to-be wife is training. What is that going to tell them about? Mm-hmm. us, right? Like, she doesn't need to do that. She needs to stay home. She needs to wear certain things. She needs to walk certain ways. And so she is just in Tamlin's ear, and he's listening to her because they grew up together. So Ianthe to Tamlin, they— they're childhood friends. Which the fuck does that say about Tamlin? Tamlin. Tamlin. Tamlin. Mm-hmm. I do think, though, that Ianthe was helpful for Feyre in those moments, but I do think Feyre immediately recognizes Ianthe as kind of being full of shit. Yeah, she saw red flags right from the beginning. Mm-hmm. She saw them. I just don't think that she, like, acknowledged them, but I think she filed them away. Mm-hmm. Like, yeah, I can't deal with this right now, but I'm gonna put it back there somewhere so that maybe one day I can. And then maybe one day she does. And Lord have mercy. Mm-mm.

32:56 Um, yeah, Iyanthe served a role. She served a purpose, and I think Pharaoh was using her for that, right? Like, yeah, let's let this roll because I don't wanna do it. Yeah. And in, in the book, Feyre even acknowledges that Ianthe is more of a match for Tamlin than she is herself, because Ianthe is all about appearances and she, she fits the, the role that Tamlin's actually looking for. You know what, I was looking for something like, okay, like, let me go down on you, blah blah blah. I don't know, it's like Immortal tongue better than mortal tongue? I don't know. They talk and then a lot of going down on her, blah blah blah, finally have sex, blah blah blah. Okay, but like the good sex like didn't come until like way later in the book, like way— Stop reading!

34:24 Way like I couldn't like, you know, I could have died before I got there. They have like sweet sex, which it makes it worse because he's such an asshole that you're like, ugh. I found that these sex scenes were so uncomfortable for me. Tamlin and Feyre? Yeah, I hated it. I hated it so much. I was like, this is what happens when you no longer like your partner. And you're just— but you're open to grab a couple orgasms. Yeah, and like, there's only so long that like, that you can do that and still be able to like live with yourself. Yeah, so I feel like that's just one more way for her to use this relationship to like hurt herself some more. She's willing to sit and to hurt herself more because of how she feels and how she— right? So she's fine to sit in all these things because she feels like a terrible person. And this is helping to abuse her psyche more than she could just do it on her own. That ties back to that line where she's like, I've done this shit for him. She's like, and now I have eternity to live with it. Yeah, I think you're right.

35:50 Yeah, yeah. I never thought I did these horrible things under the mountain with the you know killing these beautiful innocent beings, right? And and that's like the biggest thing that she's hung up on—not killing the worm, not like whatevering all the other things. It's the the killing of the innocents. Mm-hmm.
