A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas, Rhysand’s Red Flags and Feyre’s Sky Sex, Pt 2

In Part 2 of A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas, Nesta’s painful Solstice, Cassian’s rejected gift, Mor’s search for herself, and Lucien’s exile reveal just how messy the ACOTAR Inner Circle really is. Meanwhile, we debate whether Rhysand helping a broken Tamlin is compassion or manipulation, celebrate Feyre’s baby decision, question Azriel and Elain’s chemistry, and attempt to figure out the fucking physics of midair sex.

Heads up, confessors: this is a SPOILER-HEAVY episode.

We're wrapping up A Court of Frost and Starlight, including Nesta's miserable Solstice, Rhysand's questionable visit to Tamlin, Mor's emotional journey, and Feyre and Rhysand's very enthusiastic holiday activities.

If you haven't finished the book, turn back now. We're handing out spoilers, emotional damage, and red flags like Solstice presents.

The Book
  • Title: A Court of Frost and Starlight
  • Series: A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR), Book 3.5
  • Author: Sarah J. Maas
  • Spice / Heat: G-Rex gives it a 3, while Dirty Skittles and Nacho settle on a 1. Apparently, cabin sex and gravity-defying fucking affect people differently.
  • Tropes: Found family, holiday romance, trauma recovery, mating bonds, unrequited love, complicated relationships, emotional healing, morally gray love interests, and fresh starts
The Confession

Solstice is supposed to be about family, healing, and new beginnings.

Except Nesta is barely holding herself together, Mor is still hiding parts of herself, Lucien doesn't belong anywhere, and Cassian desperately wants something Nesta isn't ready to give.

Meanwhile, Rhysand is feeding his enemies, Feyre is ready to make a baby, and Nacho is collecting evidence that everyone's favorite High Lord might be a walking red flag.

Nothing says holiday cheer like unresolved trauma and questionable fictional men.

The Pour
  • Cocktail: Frosted Blackberry Gin Fizz — a little Night Court magic for a very messy Solstice.
  • Alternate drink: Spiked Hot Apple Cider — because after that snowball fight, somebody needs to warm the fuck up.
  • Non-alcoholic option: Blackberry Rosemary Sparkler — festive enough for the Inner Circle, without requiring Amren to redirect you toward the food.
Just the Tip

When does compassion become manipulation?

Rhysand visits a completely broken Tamlin and makes sure the man eats.

G-Rex questions whether Rhys is showing compassion or protecting a future political advantage. Dirty Skittles isn't convinced she understands his motives, and Nacho believes Rhys is always positioning people to owe him something.

Is he genuinely helping Tamlin, or is he collecting another debt?

Because apparently even a home-cooked meal can come with red flags.

Favorite Chaos Moments
  • G-Rex: “It's like, sometimes we just need to check the fuck out so we can figure out who the fuck we are and what we want.”
  • G-Rex: “I want to go to the cabin. I mean, I want to be fucked like that. Oh, the pictures literally came off the fucking wall.”
  • Dirty Skittles: “You don't even gotta— you ain't even gotta manipulate this brain. I'm volunteering. I'm in the front of the line.”
  • Dirty Skittles: “This episode is brought to you by Kleenex. Plus lotion. But not really. Hey, it comes with the lotion.”
  • Nacho: “He is like a collector of red flags. He needs all the red flags.”
  • Nacho: “She's got like the iron puss of like all iron pussies, man.”
Our First Impressions

G-Rex loves Feyre's decision to have a baby, remains firmly Team Cassian, and connects deeply with Mor finally choosing herself. She recognizes Rhysand's manipulative tendencies but believes Feyre has softened him.

Dirty Skittles sees how much Nesta is struggling and appreciates Amren's ability to meet her where she is. She's emotionally invested in Mor's story, still defending her love for Rhysand, and apparently willing to overlook quite a few red flags for some airborne activities.

Nacho believes Cassian is putting unfair expectations on Nesta and isn't buying Rhysand's innocent-High-Lord routine. They want more of Mor's story, question 500 years of Azriel's unrequited love, and remain suspicious of just about everyone's motivations.

Coming Up Next

Dirty Skittles is already questioning the deeper connection between Nesta and Amren heading into the next book, and Nacho is campaigning for Mor to get her own damn story.

We've got theories, unresolved feelings, and a growing collection of red flags.

And apparently, our fucked-up little book club is only getting more complicated.

0:00 Welcome to Paperback Confessions. Grab your drink, settle in, and prepare yourselves because peace and quiet have never been this messy. We're diving back into A Court of Frost and Starlight. Amren respects Nesta and her space and whatever she's going through and whatever they share with each other, she's not going to tell Feyre or anybody else about it. But there's this one little scene, I think it's when Nesta shows up for, like, the festivities where Nesta— Sorry. Nesta beelines her way to the wine. Like, she's like, I'm here, I'm getting fucked.

1:03 And Amren, I think, tells Elayne, like, hey, maybe steer her towards the food. You know? Steer her away from the wine and towards the food. And I just saw that as, like, that's a friend looking out for her friend. You know? Right. Yes. Right. Yeah. She knows that Elayne's not gonna be the one to take the heat, so she's like, yo, homie, go get your girl. Put something in her gullet before she starts— tanking up on the wine there, bud. Right, right. And I just think that that speaks to how close they are as friends. But she didn't do it herself, right? Like, she knew where Nesta was because she was able to meet Nesta where she was, and then knew enough about Nesta to know that if it came from Amren or from anybody else, it was gonna be, fuck you, give me 2 wines.

2:01 So, no, not just 2 wines, 2 bottles of wine. Sure, all the wine, right? Like, no. So I think that's just one more way that you're right, Amren shows that she is a good friend to Nesta, that she cares for Nesta. And I don't know that Feyre is even able to do that. I think sometimes those things just come with age and experience. Yeah. And isn't Amren like, uh, like, isn't Amren like 500 centuries old in Maya? Yeah, but I think it's more than, um, with age comes wisdom. I think Amren and Nesta share something, like some underlying— Like magical thing? Yeah, like I think there's something— Oh, bitch, tell me. It's— When we get into the next book, I think there's like— I think they come from the same place, whether it's darkness, death. There's something there that Amren maybe doesn't have in her, but knows what it is and can like— she knows how to speak Nesta's language. Yeah. Okay. Oh!

3:15 And I think Nesta lets her in because somebody sees that part of her that nobody else does, or not even sees. understands that part of her that no one else does. So I think there's something there. Yeah. Yeah. And just to wrap up on Nesta, I think it's worth mentioning that even though she shows up to the festivities for her rent money, goss. She does show up late. She definitely doesn't bring anybody a gift. I think somebody does give her a gift. So that's a little bit of an awkward moment. I was putting myself in that position of like, man, you don't want to be there. A, you're there because you're basically forced to be there. Um, and it's gift giving and you're sitting there like, how awkward and uncomfortable that must be. So she's having to sit in that emotion. And then another trigger for her, which we discover in the next book, is the fire, the cracking of the wood. There's a fire, people are exchanging gifts, and that is setting her off. So Nesta is very much trying to be there, but to your earlier point, G, like not wanting to be there at all. There's so many reasons that she does not want to be there. Yeah. And you know who gave her the gift? Elain gave her a gift. She gave her a stack of books. Smut novels bringing families together.

4:42 Hey, that's what brought us together. Our chosen smut family. No, no. What brought me to you was your parties. Oh, that's right. Yeah, baby. And now we have the smut novels. And now we have— Like sees alike. So that's our, that's our, like, sneak peek into the PTSD that she is unable to manage. Yeah. Um, so she gets up to leave, and Farrah, true to her word, gives her the rent money, and Nesta takes it. It's like, fuck it, I'm out. And for some reason, which I still don't quite understand, other than frustration, I suppose, is that Cassian gets very upset with Nesta taking the rent money and leaving. I think he sees her as being better than that. It was almost like, I think in that moment, metaphorically, Nesta is no better than— A whore?

5:53 Yeah. Yes. And so I think that upset Cassian to the point where he storms after her after she leaves. Yeah, because he felt like she was super ungrateful. He still wants her to be who— he is not meeting her where she's at. He is still trying to pull her to him, right? He wants her to be this. That's not her. No. So that's, that's like full stop for me on that one. Do you think that he sees who she's capable of being, or do you think he is putting his own expectations on her?

6:36 When I first read this book, it was he was putting the expectations on her. So I'm going to stick with that because I now know differently. All right. Which kind of sucked for me because I was like fully on board with Cassian. Yes. I'm Team Cassian. But what about you? Um, I think he just wanted her to be stronger, you know? Like, I think he saw the— yeah, I think he saw the best in her. I also think it's very interesting with Cassian because I think in this book and into the next book, I think to some degree he's so annoyed and frustrated that like his soul and his body want her. And like, he's like, like a puppy dog.

7:33 Like, he's just being dragged along and he can't break that bond, right? Like, he is mated to her and he's annoyed. And I, I think that like when she, she left the party, she felt nothing. It was like a void, right? Like, she was like that, that woven tape tapestry of just that black void. She did not see the silver thread. Yeah, at that point she was so in her head and she just felt empty. I think this goes back to what you said earlier, Nacho, where like he follows her and he had gotten her a gift, um, and he wanted to give it to her.

8:15 She, again, Nessa cutting with words, says some really Unhinged type shit. Worst shit. Yeah. And so he's like, fuck it, because he's like, this fucking ungrateful bitch, and he chucks it. I, I just thought like, damn, you know, he was so pissed. He was like, see this shit? Chucking this bitch right into the fucking river. What happened after that whole unhinged scene was probably one of the, one of the things that made my heart sing. What? Tell us. It's when, uh, Feyre dropped the bomb that she wanted to have a baby. Yes, that's, that's the, the arc of the story. The arc of the story. Yeah, like that, that made my heart happy because, you know, she wasn't sure if she wanted kids or not, and now she's with the man of her dreams and No matter how fucked up her fa— her family is, right? Her blood family, not her, um, not her chosen family. Right.

9:23 She wants to, you know, she's faced all this really hard shit and now she wants to bring a little one in, into the world. And I can only imagine what a cute little fucking baby that would be. What do you get a man who can have everything? Yeah. Sex in the air. I mean, they were fucking everywhere. Everywhere. Everywhere. I mean, we don't get the descriptors, but, you know. Yeah, I— what? Because that's— I mean, extra points for creativity. Extra points for almost making the 500-year-old fae fall to the ground with the two of you. I mean, like, These were some great moments. These are just the tip moments, and we love them. Yeah, we should. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

10:13 Because he like, uh, I think the the one just the tip scene is in it when he winnows her to the cottage or the whatever house that they have, the log cabin, so that they can be alone. Oh yeah! Oh my god, yes! Because through this, this house that they're all celebrating in is getting smaller and smaller. Like Feyre and Rhysand. are out growing this home. The townhouse. Yep. Yes. And so he winnows her out so that they can fuck in private and not have everybody there to hear. So yes, uh, I did for a long time try to imagine them fucking in the air. Like, what position? Yeah, I want to know how that happened. Like, is she— does she have her wings? He has his. Like, I needed— this was like— And do they get in the way? Right. The what scene?

11:02 Like the lake and the float and the Kate Stewart. It's like I'm like stuck in this like washi doggy style. Like there was a lot. There was a lot. I don't— how do you get on your knees? She's gonna be like folded in half at the hip. That's what I'm saying. Because he has to like— this is me. This is my wings. He has to fly. Right. I guess that actually has like emotion to it. I don't know, man. No, I'm just saying, like, take the wings and then wrap your legs around them and just take the wheel. Why not? Yeah, Reese and take the wheel. The wind beneath my wings.

11:44 We broke it again. How does it happen? That's cute. Yeah. I'm gonna tell you that cabin scene though. Holy crap. I went back and read that like 3 times. Yeah. 'Cause she's like, not only physically fuck me, but mentally in the space that we're in, give it to me there too. And he's like, never done this before. Hold on. And he provides, you know? Yeah. In more ways than one. Eyes are watering. But yes, the gift that she gives him is a vision of the little boy that they saw, or that she saw. At the Bone Carver, right? Yep. Yeah. Yeah. And asks if that would be okay. Like, is that something you would want? He's like, fuck yes, absolutely. Thank you so much. And that's her, like, slither of hope. Yeah. Yep, yep, yep, yep.

12:43 As a funny side note, I love that, like, the next day when they're going back, he, like, buys her a house. He's like, oh yeah, or no, he buys her land or something. He's like, you give me a baby and great sex in the air, I give you all of this. Huge, huge house. Yeah, this huge space. However you like. Spend it on my nursery. Like, again, the vagina made of whatever great vaginas need to be made of to get somebody to say that. Goddamn. But what I thought was also interesting towards the end of that book is when Rhysand went back to visit Tamlin. Ooh.

13:24 Okay. Ooh. Okay. Yeah. And that dude is fucking broken. So let's talk about Rhysand's character development then, because this kind of segues into it. He does go back. Talk to us about his visit to Tamlin. What stood out to you about that whole... Relationship. Well, let's just set the scene, okay? Because the manor is completely overgrown. Like, there's no more beautiful flowers. The house is fucking trashed. Tamlin looks like fucking— he is wet and hung up to dry, and like, he's just a fucking mess. And what a fucking little baby, right?

14:09 And like That dude's not eating, but Rhysand shows compassion. He like, he whips up some food for, for Tamlin to eat. He's like, you gotta fucking eat. Oh yeah, 'cause Tamlin, wasn't he like hand stripping? Yeah. The deer or stag or whatever. Whatever the fuck it was. Yeah, and then Rhysand's just like, uh, Yo, bro, just use a little magic. Yeah, but maybe, maybe what's-his-face doesn't have any magic left because he's, uh, feeling sorry for himself. Yeah. Do you— oh, I hate to say this because I love Rhysand, but why do you think he goes back? Do you really think it's because he cares about Tamlin? No, I think— no, he goes back because He eventually— because eventually they're gonna have to maybe go to— Like, he needs him. He needs him. Like, they're gonna have to go to another war. They're gonna like need him to fucking show up, right? They're either gonna need like his Spring Court soldiers or they're gonna need him or whatever. But Tamlin don't give 2 fucking fucks, all right? He's, he's just done. He's sad.

15:28 He's lonely. He's—he's given up, man. He gave up because the woman that he loved so much is now mated to somebody else. But he knew the whole time. He knew the whole fucking time that he—it wasn't her mate. Like, he was not her mate. Like, he literally knew that, and he took it. upon himself to like have all these sexy times and all these whatevers to try to control, to try to like whatever, manipulate, and then it blew up in his face. Huh, interesting how like that happens. All right, so I do have a question. Okay, did Feyre destroying Tamlin beyond repair— We call that FUBAR. Okay.

16:20 Does Reese force-feeding him qualify as compassion or conquest? I don't have any answer for this one because I didn't understand it myself. So I don't, I don't have an opinion one way or another. Like, I was like, why is he there? Why do that? Why go out of your way to travel to the Supreme Court to see this man who I think is in this state of being because he feeling sorry for himself? Yeah. So I don't know. Rhysand feeding him and, and visiting him and checking in on him. I don't know what the reason there is. Like, I don't know why you would do that. What about you, Nacho? I think that there's more to Rhysand. He's a, he's a transformer, okay?

17:03 There's more to Rhysand than meets the eye or the ear or however you take in your books. Uh, I don't think we're done seeing all of what Rhysand is gonna do. I don't think Rhysand is as Boy Scout as he makes himself out to be. I think he's probably got more dirty, nasty tricks up his sleeves that he's just sort of got on the back burner. But in order to do some of these things, he's got to to make sure that all the players are there in a way that they owe him. He is always collecting, always setting people up. He is always manipulating. I— you cannot, you cannot convince me of it. That's why when you guys are all like, it's so pure, I don't think so. I think he sees an opportunity. And all these things that everybody's all like, Tamlin this, Tamlin that. I think there's a touch of it in Rhysand too. That like, like, I think what happens— There's something to be said about controlling somebody through, uh, manipulating and creating a space around a being. I— yes. And I

18:37 think that Feyre has softened up Rhysand a little bit because before she— maybe before she came into his world, he was more of what Nacho said and less of what he is now. I think that he has been very controlling and manipulative his entire life, but, um, it brings— he— Feyre brings a softer side of him. I think he's just learning to hide it differently. Yeah. Damn. I don't think, I don't think he's as— I don't— I guess clandestine is the word that comes to mind, but I don't know if that's the appropriate word to use. But I just don't think he's as, uh, as Innocent really isn't the word either. Honest? Like, you guys, pure.

19:35 Like that pure, you guys. I don't think he's— I don't think that this is the end of what he's about to do. I think he's a shady motherfucker, and I think that he is enjoying what he can get out of the good things in life, but I think he is also preparing for fuckery. He's been alive for 500 years. He was under the mountain for 50. And Amarantha was like no slouch, right? Like, I don't know, I don't know. And he was still super powerful even though he was super dampened. You just can't. So my whole opinion about this thing with Tamlin is as follows. I think that he wants to make sure that he's still around when he needs him. I think that he also wants to make sure that if something happens to Tamlin, it wasn't because of something that Feyre did, because that would sort of ruin the mental health gains that he's— or changes or whatever that he wants to see or needs to see or wants to create for Feyre or within Feyre.

20:58 I think that there's a part of me that says he also wants Lucien. He sees the relationship with Lucien and Feyre as a great opportunity. And I think Lucien's wicked into that whole relationship with Tamlin. I also think, and this is way off base, and you might have to cut this, But I'm just saying he's in that throuple. Why not? Wait, who's in the throuple? Uh, Julian. Oh, Lucian. Lucian, Jurian, and Jurian, and the, the queen, the 6th queen. Vassa. Vassa. Yeah, yeah. Now that story I want to read.

21:42 That book I'm ready for. And I'm gonna stop there because I just be saying shit sometimes, and I shouldn't say it because then I listen to the podcast on the other side, and I'm like, "You dumbass! You gotta keep that some keep some of the stuff back." So that's my opinions. Okay. Crazy as they may be, I am admittedly a Risan fan, so some of this is hard to hear. But I do have a question. Remember how Pharaoh went back to the Supreme Court and basically played Tamlin, like made all the shit happen? and everything fell apart. Yeah. How much of what you feel for Rhysand is him doing something similar or him preparing for what he knows is coming? I don't think he knows what's already coming. I think he's just always preparing, always willing to go the extra mile, always willing to do whatever it takes. And I think that's why he's always watching, you know what I mean? Which is— can be a turn-on, but also in this situation, I don't think it's— I don't think it's a turn-on, like, right?

22:57 And like, you could— you could be manipulative and be— and still be a good person because it's coming from a good place. But it's also— but, but it can also be like kind of like unnerving, right? If you're not used to that type of person or that type of manipulation. Um, like, I don't know, like, don't be— don't be so manipulative. Be— be the person that you're meant to be. Like, be the leader you're supposed to be. But that's the leader he is. Yeah, he's a demonic— like, I feel like that is like Yeah. Ingrained in him. Who knows? Because listen, when you said the narrator thing, the unreliable narrator thing, it kind of fucked with my whole brain. And so now I'm like, I'd be like lensing through that motherfucker so hard.

23:51 I feel like he's also jaded. I think to a point with his Damari things, he could be fucking around with Feyre all day long. Right? Like— That's what Tamlin thought. He could be fucking with her. He could be fucking with her. I mean, I don't know. Why not? As a Rhysand fan, I refuse to believe he would do such a thing. As a Rhysand fan, that should be like the ultimate compliment. Red flag. Yeah. He is like a collector of red flags. He needs all the red flags. Exactly.

24:32 Yes, exactly. He's got like a banner of red flags just crossing his bedroom ceiling, man. Like, it's there. That's— I think that's part of his whole like thing is he's willing, he's willing to do literally anything. That includes manipulating Farrah. That includes collecting debts. That includes creating debts. That includes doing bad shit. That includes, like, he's got a family. The idea is that these, these individuals will do literally anything for beings that they love. So yeah, it should be a compliment. I think he's— Complex.

25:21 Incredibly complex. All right, if y'all say so. He is sexy. And anytime he wants to take me up in the air, no questions asked. Preach. You don't even gotta— you ain't even gotta manipulate this brain. I'm volunteering. I'm in the front of the line. I, I'm going— I, I want to go to the cabin. I mean, I want to be fucked like that. Oh, the pictures literally came off the fucking wall. Well, he, he made a promise to her. He was like fulfilling that wish. Cross that off your Christmas list. And you can't— and you can't say that though, like, that's not a nice Bonus to the manipulation. Manipulation.

26:03 Yeah, for sure. I'm all about a cute little joke. You know who we haven't talked about a whole lot is Moore. Okay, so let's chat about Moore. I'm so happy about Moore. I had completely glanced over the first time I read this book. Yes. How important it was to her story. Yes. G and I were talking one of the mornings you called. I remember I was like, I didn't realize how much more story we get from this book. And where would you like to start, G? I'm gonna call that we got to see more coming into her own in this book. Um, we caught a little bit in the, in the 3rd book, right, where she's, um, bisexual. Mm-hmm.

26:57 But like, just all the shit that happened with her family and how like this 500-year-old relationship that she had with Azriel and Cassian, how she really lost herself. And how she had to go find herself. And I think that that really resonated with me. It's like, sometimes we just need to check the fuck out so we can figure out who the fuck we are and what we want. I felt for her a lot because we do get to see a bit of what she went through. And I feel like it might have been revealed in an earlier book, but it really stuck with me in this one, was how she basically has sex with Cassian so that she's not married off to another male. Yeah, just to get rid of her virginity. Because she knew that they wouldn't want her then.

27:55 And in doing so, she does it with her full chest. I'm gonna fucking do this, and I know what's gonna happen to me. And they basically leave her for dead, and nobody comes to her rescue. That's such a pivotal part to her story because it made me really feel for her. Anytime Rhysand or the Court go to meet up with her family, she's essentially having to face these people who have played such a huge part of her trauma. Like, she's having to sit there and see them and hide behind a brave face. Yeah. The people who assaulted her. Yeah. And can't even give a sign that she feels any other emotion besides, I'm totally fine with this. And that really fucking sucks. It felt like she was always off doing something, but you never really knew where she was going. Like, where's Mor? What is she doing?

28:43 And then we get to see a little bit in this book how she has a love interest, and it's a female, and it explains why Asriel will never get that romantic love from Mor in return. He's in love with her. You can argue even in this book, I feel like that thread is still there, how much he loves her, but it'll never be reciprocated. In my interpretation, it felt like it was still a bit of a secret. Like, not everybody is aware that she's in love with a woman, and she's still kind of holding it back from her family. Feyre knows, but nobody else in the court is made aware. So she's still hiding a bit, in my opinion. You know, a lot happened in this book when it came to Mor, like meeting up with Eris again, and because he's a little fucking asshole. I feel like he keeps saying, I didn't do those things that these other guys did. It doesn't matter. Just because you didn't do something doesn't make you better.

29:46 Like, you saw it being done and you didn't intervene. Like, you didn't help her, period. I hate her dad, okay? I hate her whole family. Like, they really, like, just fucked her over. And yeah, in, in my, in my lesbian lens, I could see that she finally chose her. She chose herself. And that's why she, she went off and she, she left without telling anybody. She didn't tell the boys. She's like, She went to her little secret estate just to take care of her. Yeah. Yeah, I was really excited to hear that, or to read that she had her own space, her own little castle, her own little, you know, horses and animals, and she can go and do the things. I hope to God one of these next books are more books. I need a more moment. Yeah. Me too. There's a lot there. I would love to get to know more about it. You know, Az is Az in this book. He's still very much like— I feel like he reminds me of a friend I have who never has a day off. That is Az to me. He's always working. He's always off doing something. Um, part of me wonders how much of that is because he doesn't want to be around the fact that he's still in love with Mor and she doesn't reciprocate it. Like, how much of him working is him escaping Everyday life, you know?

31:15 I mean, how do you go 5— okay. How do you go 500 years having a friendship with somebody? And this, this is one of the things that annoys me about Mor. I'm a complex human. It's fine. We're fine. I love Mor, but I also am frustrated with Mor. How do you go 500 years having a relationship with a person who, you know, Has feelings for you in the way that Azrael is portrayed to have feelings, that more knows. And how do you not just say, bro, no? Like, she goes out and she's like diddling all these people, which I am not here to shame. Go out and get your game, girl. But also, like, tell— like, be straight with him. But maybe he's just like so— I don't know, maybe he's just so far in his own little I'm not worthy age that he can't see that he can deserve to love. I don't know. Yeah, I wonder, because he knows that she fucked Cassian, and I feel like Cassian and Azra are like night and day, totally different. Yeah. So maybe he just genuinely thinks like, I'm not her type, I'll never be a Cassian. So—

32:46 Because it was just the one time with Mor, and he knew it. He knew, maybe not in the moment when he had sex with her, but he knew why. Yeah. It did not take 500 years for him to fucking figure it out, and I don't think it would take 500 years Right, right. Unless you're a tiny little people, whatever. Um, but like, Az is not stupid. Why is— like, what's going on? And maybe that's part of it. Maybe he knows why, but— and maybe that's part of the sadness there, is that like she, she's hiding that part of herself. Maybe I'm completely speculating.

33:31 Maybe he knows she's hiding that part of her, of herself from him, and he feels some sort of sympathy for her, like he loves her. So you're saying like maybe he knows the reason why he did the thing with Cassian, and he's just so sad because she just won't confide in him? Yeah, maybe, maybe. I don't know. I like that. Maybe because how he can't be like— he really can't be that stupid, right? Like he really can't be that— he's the spymaster. That's what I'm saying, right? Right? Yeah. You don't just get that title being oblivious. I don't know. Again, complete speculation. Right, exactly. I kind of wish that like Az and Elaine would get together because Az would be really good for Elaine and get her out of her shell. He has a mean streak, but he's very soft-spoken and very— I need that. I think I need that tenderness. For Elaine because we don't know her full story. We don't get her— the full arc of who Elaine is or where she's heading.

34:36 But to me, that matchup is much better than Lucien and Elaine. Yes, I think we start to kind of see Elaine be not so like, I'm gonna go plant flowers. Like, I think we start to see her kind of Oh, this is gonna sound harsh, but like, you see a little bit of her personality develop in this one because— Oh yeah. So that little seed of like, is there anything with Elayne and Azriel, or could that be a thing? She gets him a gift. He doesn't get her one because the expectation was not that they would exchange gifts with the sister, but Elayne gets a gift for Azriel. And it's funny, it's like this moment of like, humor, I think. But yeah, like, he's genuinely tickled by the fact that she gives him headache medicine. Yeah, because she notices that he's always rubbing his temples for all the headaches everybody gives him.

35:33 And to me it was cute because it was something that, like, she's clearly watching him, maybe when he thinks nobody else is seeing him. I think she's kind of smitten too. Mm-hmm. Yeah, we get to see Azriel laugh. Like, he's not the quiet, brooding, serious type. He's like laughing in that one scene. I thought that was really cute. Yes. And I, I think that like one of the— my other favorite parts of the book is towards the end of the book when, um, the boys go and have a fucking snowball fight. Yeah. These are— these are men being kids. And they've been doing this for fucking ever, right? Like, I, I love that.

36:15 Men being kids. They have to play in the snow until somebody gives up or something, right? Like, or there's the last man standing and Azrael wins. Yeah, because everybody else got frostbite. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, we can talk about the steaminess of how awkward afterwards they go in the sauna. And Feyre starts fucking with Rhysand and sending him images of— Yeah. And he had to leave. Yeah. They kicked him out is what happened because he couldn't— there was a rule, a rule in the sauna. You don't get a hard-on in front of your boys. And he was like, couldn't help it. They kick him out. Did the thing, chicken wing.

36:57 Since we're talking about Elain and Azriel, Her mate is Lucian and he shows up with gifts and she answers the door thinking it's going to be Nesta and sees it's Lucian and she's like, oh yeah, I got to go wash my cat. I'll be right back. Like, just bounces. And Lucian's like, what the fuck? Is it me? Yes, it is you. Um, that, that mating bond, there is literally no, in my opinion, uh, emotional attachment for Elaine to Lucian. Like, I think she wants literally nothing to do with this guy. I think he feels for her and is showing up because that's his mate. But I don't know how much of it is like he wants to be with her either.

37:42 And we, we learn in here that Lucien does not live with the rest of the Inner Circle. He has his own place in Velaris, but he's not even really staying there either. He's staying in the human realm. Going back to Nacho's throuple story. Yes! He's staying in the human realm with 2 other people in what they call the Band of Exiles. And it's supposed to be people who don't belong to any court. And I'm like, ooh. But somehow they magically got a castle from the ex-fiancé's dad. Yes. How fucking weird. Is that in this book? It is. It is. Okay, great. Of all the places they're staying, it's Elain's ex-fiancé's dude's land or house or whatever. Bro, so much fuckery is afoot. You can't tell me. What the fuck?

38:31 Right. She's gonna fuck so hard with us. We're gonna get some sort of lame-ass backstory in 400 pages in a week and a half, and we're all gonna just be reeling from the crazy in our bodies. I'm like, of all the places he would find home or where he is willing to live, his mate's ex-fiancée's estate. The fuck? The fuck is that? But we learn he's there because he's no longer welcome at the Spring Court. Tamlin has all his shit delivered to this guy's fucking place. He doesn't really feel like he's at home at the Night Court either. So yeah, he's there at this guy's fucking land. What the hell? And I just— I think that that makes me sad. Because in— that was one of the saddest arcs, was Lucien.

39:29 So Nesta and Lucien brought in the sad arcs. Uh, Feyre brought in a happy arc. Elain, we see her coming out of her own fucking head. Mor goes and finds herself. The boys go and play in the fucking snow, and Amren is living her best life with the dude. Getting so much tail. Yeah. That girl, how the fuck she walks, I want to know. She's the comedic relief in this one. She's like 10,000 years old. She's got like the iron puss of like all iron pussies, man. And how it's not dust amazes me. I love that they're at the dinner table and like she's like complaining about learning how to be human, right? Like what— like the peeing. I have to pee. She always has to go to the bathroom. I love that Rhysand's like, wow, great dinner conversation, or whatever the fuck he says. Like, Amaranth's like, look, I don't, I don't like it. Right? I don't like it.

40:25 Take it back. Like, like I said, it was a great palate cleanser for me for book overall. There were some very spicy scenes that I would give like a 4+ that I had— She hasn't read the books that we've read, Skits. She has not read the books that we've read. I'm a virgin, okay? And that's the only place I'm a virgin. Oh, the only place, you say? Interesting. I, I've done some things. Hey, I'm a virgin like the very first time. Okay, I'm gonna keep my day job. I'm dying.

41:14 Oh wait, Skittles has to blow her nose. Wait. And I do. Thank you. Oh, that made my ears pop. This episode is brought to you by Kleenex. Plus lotion. But not really. Hey, it comes with the lotion. The best booger catcher on the planet. Says the Puffs user. So 3 for spice from G. Yes. What about you, Nacho? Spice star rating? It's so sweet and pure.

41:54 You can have your 1. You can have your 1. And I'm giving it a 1 because I can't give it like a 0.5. I mean, I guess I could technically give it whatever the fuck I want, but I'm gonna say 1. Yeah, I feel like this is just never gonna be the like super descriptor book that like some of the other books that I've read Right? This author is just not into spending 45 pages intimately describing every moment and movement. Any last thoughts on A Court of Frost and Starlight? Anything we haven't mentioned you want to mention?

42:39 I loved it all the way. There was so much extra for character development. Yeah. And then having this conversation with you two has reformed some of my opinions on some of the characters too. Well, because we bring our own opinions, right? This was like the fucked up book club, in a good way, because— Yeah, but I'm so turned on about it. How could we not be?
